This collection features exquisite examples from great works of literature as well as folk and fairy tales. Among the puppets are characters from Alice in Wonderland, Hamlet, Knights of the Round Table, Othello, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Peter Rabbit, Pinocchio, Little Red Riding Hood, Rip Van Winkle, Peer Gynt and others.
Sources include puppets made by children under the Work Project Administration of the 1930’s and performed at school assemblies. Many WPA puppets were also made by noted professionals an folk artists.
